A practical structure for product identity, parts, tools, step visuals, completion checks and support handoff.
An assembly instructions template is a repeatable structure for explaining the correct product, prerequisites, parts, actions and expected result. Fill it with the approved procedure for a specific model, then test it with someone who has not assembled that product before.
This template organizes documentation. It does not prescribe a universal assembly method or substitute for the product owner’s technical review.
Record product name, model, variant, document revision, language, approval owner and review date. List the models covered and any exclusions. State whether the reader is a buyer, installer or trained technician. A user should be able to establish applicability before unpacking or beginning work.
List packages expected, required tools, workspace needs and manufacturer-defined warnings. Separate supplied hardware from items the user must obtain. Include the expected time and number of people only when established for this product. Explain how to report an incomplete delivery before starting an assembly that cannot be completed.

Use the smallest coherent action that a reader can perform and verify. Split a step when it involves another part, changes viewpoint substantially or requires a separate decision.
Yes. Product identity, part references and step checks are useful in both. Prepare visual assets appropriate to each format and keep the underlying procedure consistent.
Include product-specific estimates and staffing requirements from approved documentation or an appropriately reviewed task study. Avoid copying a number from a similar product.
Mark it for technical review. Do not fill a procedural gap with a plausible instruction and publish it as approved.

For each item include its manual callout, approved description, quantity and useful image. Add the official reference when it is available. Preserve distinguishing dimensions or finish codes from the source. A callout such as A or 12 is an illustration label; do not present it as an orderable supplier number unless that is how the manufacturer identifies it.
Use this record for each step: step number; prerequisites; parts/tools used; one action; relevant image or view; expected result; source warning; and next step or support path. Avoid combining several unrelated actions under a single animation. Provide readable text so that understanding does not depend on motion, color or a small hotspot.
A cabinet step might ask the reader to identify the illustrated inside face of a panel, show both candidate orientations and explain the expected alignment. The reviewer checks those views against the approved manual and actual parts. Record the documented orientation and result; do not invent a fastener specification to make the template look complete.
Add the manufacturer’s completion checklist, remaining packaging or spare-part information, and the route for unresolved issues. Ask support to collect model, step number and a photo where appropriate. Before publishing, check inventory counts, references, links, translations and every depicted orientation.
