Turn engineering geometry into a reviewed visual sequence by preserving part identity, orientation and the approved assembly procedure.
Preparing CAD for assembly instructions means selecting the applicable assembly, preserving useful part structure and linking its components to an approved sequence. CAD shows geometry and relationships; it does not automatically establish every action, warning or acceptance check a user needs.
Review the model and manual together. Resolve differences between the engineering assembly, shipped configuration and intended user task before investing in a detailed animation.
Collect the applicable model, variant, bill of materials, manual and document owner. Confirm that the model represents the shipped product. An engineering prototype may contain components that customers never handle, or may omit packaging and supplied hardware that matter during setup.
Keep separately selectable parts for the orientation or identification tasks you intend to show. Record consistent names and references. A single merged mesh may display beautifully but require preparation before individual components can be highlighted. Do not remove structural context solely to reduce file size.
Choose an export format supported by the intended publishing workflow, then check scale, axes, part transforms and appearance after import. Optimize geometry and textures for the devices people actually use. Ask for a source-file demonstration rather than assuming every CAD format, metadata field or material transfers automatically.

Approve the sequence and maintenance responsibilities.
Geometry can support authoring, but the sequence and user-facing checks need an approved source and review. Do not infer safety or installation requirements solely from a model.
A PDF can support a useful diagram-led guide. Creating suitable 3D geometry is a separate scoping decision; it is not an automatic consequence of importing the PDF.
Include the components and context required for the intended task. Maintain accurate relationships and source references when simplifying the published view.
Provide an approved procedure, the available model and relevant part records. Agree on supported inputs and preparation effort for that source pack before promising a conversion.

Map each action to its relevant components, starting state, camera and expected result. Distinguish an exploded illustration from a feasible assembly order: parts shown separated for identification are not necessarily removed or installed in that direction. The procedure owner should approve the sequence and any represented tool use.
Illustrative preparation task: a frame is sold in two widths. The guide team checks the released assemblies and connector references, then creates the appropriate views for each variant. A generic scaled model is not enough if mounting points or hardware differ. Dimensions, anchoring and installation conditions remain those in the approved variant documentation.
Check the exported model on a target phone, compare all part labels with the source and verify that the view supports the written action. Include readable instructions and an escalation route. Record the model revision and guide revision together so a later CAD change triggers review of affected steps.
